Thank you, and goodnight.

MASSIVE thanks to those of you who've donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

After 31 days of frocks and skirts, I've saved my favourite for last.
P.S. Follow me back at my regular blog, The Engineer's Other Life.

red

More than half a dozen of you have donated! That's brilliant. Now, the other 1318 hits this website has had in October... well, I'm just saying - looking at my website for free doesn't help ovarian cancer research.

Thursday night in the grotto

I was lucky to even get this photo while the sun was still in the sky. The grotto is really peaceful, especially at this time of day.

How's the serenity? So much serenity.

I love the power lines. They remind me of man's ability to generate electricity.

Me. Onehunga Bay. A good reason to go elsewhere for a swim.

1976. Or, Grandma's dress no. 3.

I figure this dress is from about 1976 (well, it's definitely from before I was born).

I have taken the liberty of assuming that in 1976...

  • everybody had a candle with the year on it;
  • they read yearbooks from Frank Scott Bunnell High School; and
  • read sewing and cooking books when the yearbook got boring.

Look where my couch is!

I wish it was sunny, and that I was in Devonport overlooking Rangitoto. However, I'm actually just a tired little engineer lying on my couch at home.

Make my day - please donate a few dollars to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

The tiniest sewing machine

Did you know: pretty much everyone reading this should be able to spare a few dollars for ovarian cancer research. Thanks to those who've already done so!

Dress: Benetton. Necklace with tiny sewing machine: Mecino. Oddly angled photograph: Chris.

Symptoms and special shoes

Did you know: some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer include bloating, pelvic pain, difficulty eating, and urinary problems. However, not all women with cancer will have these symptoms, and these symptoms can also be caused by many other health issues.

I am wearing a dress in this picture (and I also have a head, though you can't see it). But really, it's all about THE SHOES. THE SHOES. THE SHOES. I love them. They are clompy and gorgeous.

Fun with GIMP and a little black dress

So close to halfway through Frocktober, and I haven't repeated a dress yet!

In case you were wondering, GIMP is free photo-editing software. If I was sensible I would have photo-edited MYSELF, but a) it would take me weeks to make myself look good, and b) it's more fun to muck around.

Workin' late and wearin' orange

My dress is a similar colour to my usual stylish hi-vis. I don't care.

Can't really see my dress in this picture? I also don't care. Spent too long at work to have any creativity left for today.

Flappy dress and a strong volcanic wind

Standing on a volcano on a windy day with a flappy dress can be rather risqué. Big thanks to the guy who took the photo for me on top of Mt Eden (Maungawhau).
And check out Extra Large As Life for a round-up of fantastic frocked females!

The secretary says: "Donate!"

Did you know: about 1200 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. About 800 Australian women will die from ovarian cancer each year.

I'm not sure why I think a secretary would wear a skirt and blouse. BTW, I made this blouse. See?

In case you were wondering, dinner tonight was savoury pancakes with chicken, mushrooms and spinach.

burda style skirt and a grumpy engineer

Did you know: drinking wine will in no way assist with ovarian cancer research. Donating to Frocktober will.

You can see the construction of this skirt here. However, nobody wants to see the face of a grumpy engineer, so you only get the rear view of the skirt. Yes, the photo is blurry, and no, I don't care. Let's just call it 'artistic'.

Donation from my grandma, and inappropriate yoga wear

Today I got a cheque in the mail from my (non-dress-wearing) Grandma! She's on a pension, so if ovarian cancer research is important enough for her to donate some money, then surely you guys can spare a few dollars too.

I learned this evening that dresses are not the best yoga wear. I love this dress too - you can see here at this link how excited I was when I finished sewing it.

Purple silk dress

Did you know: currently, the only way to know for sure if a woman has ovarian cancer is to perform surgery. There is no simple sure-fire test.

So many people said nice things about today's dress. It IS pretty cheerful! That's why I wore it last Christmas. If you look really closely, my nail polish matches :-)

Grandma's dress no. 1 at Kawakawa Bay

Did you know: About 35% of women with ovarian cancer are less than 55 years old.

Today was a great day. I went to the Clevedon farmer's market, got some lovely food, and made an awesome dinner.

I also wore one of my favourite old polyester dresses that I, ahem, borrowed from Grandma. I love this one SO MUCH. And I wore it to Kawakawa Bay, where I had lunch after the market. Beautiful day.
*update* "Some" people didn't like my photo skills and said that I looked like I only had one leg in the photo, so I've done a little photo-editing such that you can clearly see a) the dress, and b) two legs. Personally, I thought seeing me in silhouette would be preferable ;-)

Peacock dress - and a shop for you to visit

Did you know: 70% of women are not diagnosed until the cancer has already spread to other organs.

The dress: just a cheapy from an import store in Onehunga. I love it though, so summery! And today was the first sunshine I've seen in ages.

Please check out my friend Crystal's site for some sexy dresses - http://www.madmendresses.com/
They have gorgeous vintage-style dresses and accessories, and for the month of October they're donating 5% of sales to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Thanks Crystal!

Merino wool dress

Did you know: Pap smears DO NOT screen for ovarian cancer. Currently, there is no early detection test.

Today's dress: a merino wool dress from Glassons. I would say "Buy Local" - Glassons is a Kiwi store, and we definitely have sheep here - but I think it was still made in China.
